Group Leader - Beacon
Reports to: Beacon Program Director and Assistant Director

Hours: Part-time - Minimum of 20 hours per week; Programing is offered every weekday from 2:00pm to 9:00pm, 10:00am - 6:00pm on weekends, and extended hours during the summer and school holidays. Must have availability to work Weekday/Afternoon/Evening and Saturdays
This position is fully in-person and does not offer any remote work.
Salary Range: $25/hour - $25/hour
Position Summary
Brooklyn Community Services is one of Brooklyn’s first and largest non-sectarian social services agencies. BCS, which presently serves more than 20,000 individuals annually, is committed to a broad and diverse range of services including education and child care; services to strengthen families; and services to foster self-sufficiency for adults.
Beacon Community Centers provide academic and recreational opportunities to children, teens, and adults. The Beacon program is offered every weekday from 2:00pm to 9:00pm, 10:00am - 6:00pm on weekends, and extended hours during the summer and school holidays.
Responsibilities:
Work with Site Director and Assistant Director/On-site Supervisor to provide enriching activities for children, youth and adults during program hours.
Assist with after school activities; help implement hands-on multi-sensory lessons and activities to children which are provided in the context of academically stimulating themes.
Coordinate planning and preparation of activities and materials for daily schedule.
Participate in creating lesson plans, activity facilitation, behavior management and professionalism.
Provide effective supervision to groups of children during classroom activities, snack time, recreation and field trips.
Responsible for taking and collecting daily attendance.
Assist with developing and planning community events for children, parents and community as needed.
Oversee and monitor authorized parental/guardian pick up of children.
Supervises Activity Specialist and reinforce staff expectations
Collect, review, and approve lesson plans.
Assist specialist with group management and minor behavioral problems.
Fills in for Activity Specialist if needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Reliable and able to work as a team member.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma; some college education preferred
Must enjoy working with children and be able to pass a background check.
Background in sports, music, drama, dance, photography, crafts, sewing, or the arts is a plus.
