Position: ESOL Instructor

Location: Education Center, 132 32nd Street, Brooklyn
Status/Hours: 12 contact hours and 6 paid planning hours per week.
Hourly Rate: $42 per hour
Program Description
The Education Center provides adult education services to the Brooklyn community. We serve adult learners through ESOL classes, GED preparation, and supportive educational programming. In addition, the Education Center operates a Family Welcome Center that offers case management, wraparound services, workforce readiness support, and community workshops and events. Many of our students speak Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese as their first language.
Position Description
The BCS Education Center is seeking an ESOL Instructor to teach adult beginner-level English language learners. The instructor will plan and deliver engaging, level-appropriate lessons that build foundational English skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The role focuses on supporting adult learners as they develop basic communication skills, gain confidence using English in daily life, and make measurable progress toward language proficiency.
The ideal candidate is an experienced adult educator who creates an inclusive, supportive classroom environment and is comfortable working with linguistically and culturally diverse learners.
Responsibilities
Teach beginner-level ESOL classes using the established curriculum and instructional materials
Deliver lessons focused on foundational English skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing
Create a positive and respectful classroom environment that supports adult learners at varying levels
Follow lesson plans and instructional objectives to ensure continuity and consistency
Provide individualized support to help students overcome learning challenges
Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback
Maintain accurate attendance and required documentation
Communicate with program staff to support student progress and address any classroom concerns
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
TESOL certificate (or higher) required
Experience teaching adult English language learners, preferably at the beginner level
Knowledge of adult education and second-language acquisition principles
Experience working with multicultural populations
Spanish, Arabic, and/or Chinese language skills preferred
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Ability to adapt to change and receive feedback in a professional manner
