Position: Director of Learning, DEI and Staff Development

Job Location: Downtown, Brooklyn, NY with occasional travel to programs across Brooklyn, NY required on an as needed basis
Position Type: Full Time 35 hours per week - In person work required
Salary Range: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 annualized

Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) supports and strengthens communities impacted by systemic poverty by fostering the educational success of children, the leadership development of youth, the employment and housing stability of adults, and the advancement of individuals living with disabilities. With approximately 50 programs at 28 locations, BCS serves more than 20,000 people annually.
Position Description:
The Director of Learning, DEI and Staff Development, reports through the Chief Human Resources Officer and is responsible for planning, developing and ensuring delivery of the essential education and training needs of all staff to provide the necessary knowledge to perform their jobs and to grow professionally. The Director will plan, coordinate, develop and implement the organization's current multi-year training needs model and continuously assess the training needs of the organization. The Director will research, design and implement effective methods to educate, train and measure the performance of the BCS workforce. The Director will assist in the development and implementation of BCS’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The Director will also partner with the DEI Committee to develop strategies to maintain a diverse, welcoming and inclusive workplace.
Principal Responsibilities

Design, plan and implement training goals including launching organizational training needs assessment.

Collaborate with internal departments, external entities and subject experts to develop and implement training strategies and policies to improve internal processes that meet regulatory and organizational requirements.

Continue to assess employees' training needs in relation to the organization's goals, including conducting focus groups with managers, supervisors, and line staff. Revise training resources to meet the existing and emerging training needs of the workforce.

Obtain and /or develop effective training materials utilizing internal and external resources.

Coordinate training for directors, supervisors and non-managerial staff.

Develop and administer evaluation instruments that measure the effectiveness of learning and training programs.

Maintain electronic records of employee training and produce statistical reports, in the Learning Management System or elsewhere.

Serve as liaison for the organization to external training committees and staff development planning groups.

Plan, organize and facilitate employee development and training events.

Develop and maintain organizational communication strategies to inform employees of training and development events and resources.

Participate in all professional development aspects of agency retention efforts.

Strong conflict resolution skills, ability to successfully mediate disagreements resulting in improved collaboration

Monitor the training compliance regulations and expectations from funders and regulators and assist BCS in meeting all aspects of the responsibilities required. Integrate training required by or related to funders and regulators into internal training processes.

Research, develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to foster the organization’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Assist in strategies to attract employees from diverse backgrounds and aid diversity and retention initiatives.

Qualifications
Skills/Abilities:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field (learning design, organizational management, Human Resources, Education or a related field) with at least two years of experience designing and implementing employee development training programs, or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Experience with implementing DEI initiatives, staff development initiatives, or related experience.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent facilitation, coaching and presentation skills.

Ability to evaluate and research potential training offerings.

Ability to design and implement effective training and development curriculum.

Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Google Workspace and presentation software.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Experience working in an organization providing human services is a plus.

DEI Certification through accredited school or program is also a plus.
